"Lady in Waiting"
2003 - Oil on Canvas
76.2 x 101.6 cm (30" x 40")

Original Oil Painting: $2,499 (Framed)
Giclee Reproduction: $175

Svetlana wanted to depict a classical "lady-in-waiting"; a female personal assistant at a noble court, attending to a queen, a princess or other noblewoman. A lady-in-waiting is often a noblewoman of lower rank (a lesser noble) than the one she attends to, and is not considered a servant or other commoner, though their duties varied from monarchy to monarchy. Three of Henry VIII of England's wives were ladies-in-waiting before they became queen.

"Pilate's Dilemma"
2006 - Oil on Canvas
76.2 x 101.6 cm (30" x 40")

Original Oil Painting: $2,249 (Framed)
Giclee Reproduction: $175

Pontius Pilate is often portrayed as the persecutor of Jesus Christ, but in reality he found no fault with Christ. His interest was in keeping the peace in the Iudaea province. Convicting Jesus might lead Christ's followers to revolt, whereas not convicting him could lead to the Pharisees and Sadducees to promote rebellion...thus leading to "Pilate's dilemma". Ultimately he 'washed his hands' of the issue, and left Christ's fate in the hands of the Jewish leadership.
